Can a state punish me for a crime that was committed in a different state?
In April 2009 I was convicted of a DUI in Wyoming visiting my sister-in-law. My license was suspended from May 5th 2009 to August 02, 2009. I was supposed to get my license back in five days but just two days ago I received a letter from the state of Illinois stating that since I am 20 years old I need to surrender my drivers license and any other registration. This morning I went to the DMV to give them my license and they informed me that I was not eligible for reinstatement until 2011. I understand that I should be punished for what I did but my husband just recently resigned from the army and is currently unemployed and doing side jobs. I am working at a bar and grille as a waitress and it is better than not having a job at all. Although, if I cannot get a Restricted Drivers Permit I will not be able to keep my job or go to school like I was planning. I need to know if there is ANYTHING I can do about this.
